Emily Blunt Sets the Record Straight on Her Comments About Tom Cruise: They Were Taken Out of Context
Emily Blunt recently clarified her comments about her co-star and friend, Tom Cruise, stating that they were taken "literally and absurdly out of context" by some media outlets and fans. In a new episode of the 'SmartLess' podcast, Emily shared a conversation she had with Cruise during the filming of 2014's 'Edge of Tomorrow', where she revealed that she had difficulty getting through the shoot and Cruise told her to "stop being such a p***y."
Speaking to People magazine, Emily emphasized that the comment was made in jest to make her laugh, which it did, and that Cruise was a total gem to her throughout filming. "It's ludicrous that it's being spun as something that offended me. It didn't. I shared the story as lightheartedly as it was meant by Tom. And it's still something we laugh about to this day," she said.
In the same podcast episode, Emily detailed the stress she experienced while filming 'Edge of Tomorrow', including injuring her ribs due to wearing a heavy robotic costume that weighed 85 pounds. She also shared that Cruise had been supportive during her breakdown and offered straightforward advice for her approach to the movie after she confessed her nerves over the production to him.
Emily and Cruise starred together in the 2014 action film directed by Doug Liman, which received critical acclaim and garnered a large following of fans. Despite the recent media frenzy surrounding Emily's comments, she and Cruise remain good friends and continue to laugh about the incident to this day.
