Brad Pitt got Courtney Love fired from Fight Club: He stalked me

Reiterating her claim that she was let go from the 1999 movie Fight Club because she wouldn't let Brad Pitt portray her late husband Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love claims that she was sacked for this.

The artist first made the claim when appearing on the WTF with Marc Maron show. She was married to the late Nirvana frontman from 1992 until his passing in 1994.

Love claimed that after Pitt and director Gus Van Sant approached her about starring in a movie about Kurt Cobain, she "went nuclear" on them and was sacked from the role of Marla, which was ultimately played by Helena Bonham Carter.

Love's allegation was refuted by a source who told Variety that, despite her audition, she was never officially cast in the part.

The insider said, "You cannot be fired for a job you didn't get. It is well known that the director chooses the parts, not the other actors.

Despite this, Love defended her account in an Instagram post published on December 30, asserting that the movie was already in production when she was supposedly let go.

“Hi. a reference to a tale I shared on the @marcmaron #wtf podcast. a tale I had no intention of sharing. I was pushed too far by Brad [Pitt]. I don't appreciate how he does business or uses his influence. It began during the filming of Fight Club, and it is a straightforward fact," she wrote.

Love continued by saying that she was more unhappy about the circumstances behind Marla's exit from the movie than she was about losing the character of Marla.

I'm not still whining about losing a role as someone's sidekick in a movie 22 years later. On the episode, I talk about the time Brad & Gus Van Sant tried to use my role as leverage to extort money for the rights to a Kurt Russell movie. I lost my cool with them, and by seven o'clock I was out of Fight Club. This is entirely factual. I was quite happy to keep this a secret from the beginning," she stated.

It's a film. Yes, I turned down better roles than that. Who cares? Love written. The key is that Brad persisted in bugging me regarding Kurt.

Love went on to say that she had declined to give Pitt the role of Kurt Cobain because she did not believe in him or his intentions.

On the Maron show, she added, "I wouldn't let Brad play Kurt."

"I blew it up. I'm not a Faust fan. Who do you think you are, the f***?" Love remembered saying to Pitt:

"I'm not sure if I believe you, and I have no idea if your films are made to make money. They're excellent social justice films, but if you don't get me, you sort of don't understand Kurt, and Brad, I don't think you do.

Love claims that Edward Norton was the one who originally let her know she would no longer be appearing in the movie. She said, "He starts crying."

"I don't have the power!" he exclaimed.

Director David Fincher reportedly called her later to announce she would no longer be playing Marla.
