Soothe
your throat and receive some nutrition at the same time!
Colds,
allergies, or speaking too loudly can produce a sore throat (no pun intended).
Scratchiness, swallowing pain, and speaking effort annoy you. What's the worst?
It prevents you from eating and drinking, which is needed to recuperate from
infections, germs, or allergies.
When
it comes to selecting meals that soothe your throat, you want to be sure
they're not irritating. Lisa Young, Ph.D., RDN, author of Finally Full, Finally
Slim, and The Portion Teller Plan, spoke about the healthiest foods to consume
when you have a sore throat.
1.
Oatmeal
Young
recommends soft, easy-to-swallow foods. "They can also help with throat
inflammation."
Oatmeal
is not only a soft substance, but it also contains many nutrients, ensuring
that you stay healthy while you recover. This reduces inflammation and boosts
vitality (so you don't spend all day on the couch). It's also a good source of
fibre and can help decrease cholesterol.
2.
Yogurt
Yogurt
is another soft-textured item that is easier to swallow when you have a sore throat.
It's high in nutrients, which will help your body battle the sore throat
infection.
"Yogurt
is high in calcium and protein," Young explains.
Yogurt
contains immune-boosting probiotics. Probiotics balance gut flora and prevent
harmful bacteria growth.
According
to a Korean Journal of Family Medicine study, probiotics can block the production of harmful bacteria, which could
prevent colds.
3.
Chicken Broth
Warm
foods can soothe your throat, says Young. Chicken broth relieves pain.
Young
says chicken broth is hydrating.
Its high salt content helps replace the body's electrolytes naturally. This is
helpful if you have a sore throat from the flu, a cold, or anything else that
causes you to lose water and electrolytes.
4.
Popsicles
Did
you ever have to get your tonsils removed as a kid, and the doctor would entice
you by promising you could eat ice pops for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? If
this describes you, you may probably assume that ice pops are beneficial for
sore throats.
Ice
pops are hydrating and soothing to the throat, says Young.
According to Medical News Today, Ice pops aid in cooling down the nerve endings in the throat. This aids in the reduction of pain signals. Melastatin 8, a transitory receptor, is similarly activated by ice pops, resulting in pain alleviation.
